I'm not sure how we're going to choose. Really. I look at one in isolation & LOVE it - then I go to another one, and I LOVE that one! This is hard - but SO MUCH FUN!!
So, Max prefers the fully drawn picture (I'm sorry about the words I use - I really don't know the proper 'terms'). Anyway, the one with the purple wall - that appeals to him. I swing between that one and the one of Charlotte putting notes under the door...and yet when I saw the photograph with the drawings layered on top, I was really excited - it was really what I had envisioned all along. I think the black and white photo is too cold for this book. I'm worried that in the 'regular' photo, the characters would get lost. The tones - especially the gold tone - is warm and interesting - yet detailed. (Of course, the 'real' Charlotte liked the purple one). :) So, while I'm drawn to the fully illustrated ones for style, I'm curious to see if the photographs would work - simply to go back to what my thoughts were originally: so that kids can get a realistic image of what the appointments at the hospital look like.
Now, that said, I'm still not entirely sure which is the right way to illustrate this book. I might end up bowing to your thoughts on this at some point. I get the feeling you much prefer the top few illustrations (minus the photos). I think with the illustrations, we do have more control over the 'world' - rather than having to source out where to take a photo that would 'fit'...
Is this helpful or am I just waffling?
I guess I'm saying that I really like all of it so far & you're on the TOTAL right track (I feel like you looked inside my head and drew it!). So, with a bit of back-and-forth and trying out a few things, I think we'll get to something we're both happy with - I was going to say 'easily', but it's easy for me to see & comment on the pictures on the blog - I'm not trying to suggest it's easy for you to get them there! :)
I will say that it took me a second when I saw the text on the same page as the picture - this is going to be a book! Super cool!
