Here we have some more experimentation - only the characters have a hard line, the bg elements are driven by colour blocks and then have some additional colour and brush work on top.
I also really like the serendipitous brush effect on the edges of the composition - a bit looser.
This inspired me to add some text. Still playing again, but I'm starting to see page composition - playing with bringing out certain words. Not sure I love this particular treatment or font, but again, we're playing.
I also like only illustrating the elements in a composition that are really needed. In this design, it is the door, the door frame, the bed, covers, rug and Charlotte's drawings - they complement everything in the text - no extra bits to pull the eye away from the intended emotion (in this case the tenderness of Charlotte not disturbing her mom as she slips a drawing under the door.
More development needed, but like the way it is going...
