Having a realistic look of what the hospital and its equipment looks like is an important part of the storytelling to help kids and mom's understand what is used to help women get better.
This idea really resonated with me so I played around a bit with the idea of using photos to reflect the real life important elements in a composition, and supplemented the layout with a hand drawn/painted effect that keeps the world of Charlotte in a story book.
I'm still working out the small details but I'm really liking the direction it is taking.
A couple of samples of how this could play out follow....
I liked this but thought it needed a few more details to show where we were without pulling the eye away from the focal point in the composition.
So I tried adding a couple of elements that will help contextualize the setting.
I then played with another layout. I used a photo of a fridge as that is the source of the goodness in Charlotte's world - the place where the "healthy" food resides. (BTW, I like the pose and attitude of Charlotte in this drawing - I feel like her personality is starting to come out.)
So you can see how this composition might work in a page layout, I've dropped in the corresponding text. PLEASE NOTE -- I'm not satisfied with the font, nor have I properly composed the text in this image - this is NOT a final layout - I'm playing again to get an idea of how things can look!
