The following image is a very rough cut at the book layout with basic page composition and placement. Here I'm exploring visually for the first time which words and images will appear on the same spread. I'm thinking about double page composition, white space, text placement and page position. Specifically, I'd like to ensure the title page of each book is always page right - just feels correct that way. To accomplish this I've had to fiddle a bit with the page breakdown list we had but there was little problem.
We'll have to check if the publisher can print on the inside front cover and we can adjust the first few pages a bit if you like but I really want to start the "Operation" book on an odd page number. Page 52 for the mo' is either blank or with a small illo of Charlotte and her mom doing something (not included).
I've made little notes for myself and indicated at a first pass what might be the photographed elements - again, this is a first pass, meant to help us see things visually laid out for the first time. Just click on the image to see it larger.
More info to come....
OK. Now it's quite late so I may not be as coherent anymore, but I just LOVED looking at this closely. I can really see it coming together and how it would flow. Very cool! My only thoughts at the moment are that for the chemo, I'd really like the chair & IV to be the photo element... tough one since the necklace would be important to the kid. If it's the photo element on the last page, does that cut it? Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteAlso, I wonder if we should switch around the Glossary and the "How the book came to be" thing - the Glossary is a bit more for kids to look at while the other 2 are more for the adults to read. A thought.
Fun fun fun!
