I'm thinking of using something bold, less busy and bright - jelly bean like colours to separate each book from the other.
I've attached three different variations on one idea. The first is just the bold colour with the title. The second is the same but with a white line drawing/sketch of an idea in that particular book (a lead-in if you like of what is to come). The third takes the idea a bit farther and cleans up the drawing and adds colour.
Thoughts?
Something to consider - the font I've used here is quite playful. I'm working through what sort of tone we want the visuals to take. The book deals with very serious material but I believe there is opportunity to adjust the tone of the visuals that support the text. This is a book we want kids to be able to enjoy which is why I'm using strong colours and have designed the characters the way I have but we want to strike the right blend for the mom's too.
Give it some thought.
I actually like these colours - they're appealing to kids (I think!) and they're gender neutral - since the main character is a girl, I'd like to make sure we don't make it too 'girly'. I abhor pink now, so I'd like to avoid that. I definitely prefer the title pages with the illustration included - but waffle between the outlines and the coloured one. The outline is more gentle but the colours are more kid-friendly I think...
